The Cameron Council on Aging provides services to those residents 60 years and over who are residing in Cameron Parish. Services provided parish wide include:
1. Homemaker: Scheduled light house cleaning in homes of the frail and homebound elderly.
2. Home Delivered Meals: Frozen well-balanced noon meals delivered on Monday to homebound elderly.
3. Congregate Meals: Hot, well-balanced noon meals served at two locations in the parish to seniors over the age of 60 and their spouses.
4. Nutrition Education: Information services on healthy eating provided by a registered dietician.
5. Transportation: Transportation services including handicapped to various locations in the parish as well as outside destinations such as Lake Charles and Sulphur with rare occasions of transportation to Baton Rouge, Alexandria and Lafayette utilizing agency vans.
6. Legal Assistance: Free Legal advice and representation through local attorneys and legal aid.
7. Information and Assistance: Information given to clients who are in need, such as information concerning jobs, services from other state and local entities, services delivered by other non-profit groups or clubs, names and telephone numbers of attorneys, physicians and other professionals that service the elderly free of charge or at a reasonable rate.
8. Outreach: Door to door visits to secure the names and information concerning those persons who are reaching the age of 60 and opportunity to tell the potential client about our services.
9. Medical Alert: The issuance of a medical alert pager that connects to the telephone system and is used in emergency situations to secure assistance.
10. Recreation: Includes but is not limited to educational seminars, trips parties, Senior Olympics, movies, films, videos, crafts, visits to nursing homes in nearby areas, etc.
11. Visiting: Home visits to those persons in need of companionship.
12. Telephoning: Telephone assurance calls placed periodically to those persons who need to be checked on frequently due to being homebound and living alone or just someone who is lonely.
13. Material Aid: Includes providing necessary clothing, food and shelter when needed.
